[fse-esf] Florence10+10: questions and thoughts

Dear Mariangela,

about your thoughts: I share some of your fears. But what alternative do you
have? Should we continue to fight in our national fields? A well prepared
meeting in Florence honestly stock taking what we achieved and in what we
failed and searching for new and more effective ways of coordination and –
maybe – common actions could be the right way. My doubts are rooted in the
way of preparation (“Well prepared!”) because here in Germany we don’t know
what our Italian friends are doing for that. I’m pretty sure they are very
active – but for our preparation and for the success of the Florence meeting
it would be helpful to get to know a bit more.

Best regards

Hugo

Betreff: [fse-esf] Florence10+10: questions and thoughts

Dear all,

We have a few questions about Florence 10+10, and a couple of thoughts.

The first questions concern the September meeting:

- will it definitely happen? If so, what will its purpose be?

Then:

- what measures are being taken to ensure the inclusion and involvement of
all movements that, during the past year, have been been engaged all over
Europe in protests against cuts and in the creation of alternative
discourses? (e.g. 15M, Occupy, Blocupy Frankfurt, etc.)

And also:

- as there is very little time between the September meeting and Florence
10+10, how much room is there to give the event a shape that reflects a
common process? What practices will ensure this?

To conclude, one last but fundamental question:

- what does Florence 10+10 mean to be? How is it planning to achieve this?

Now come the thoughts:

- we believe that, in the absence of a clear process, the November event
runs the risk of becoming a two/three-day conference during which a few
talk, the vast majority listen, and some vague declarations are made. After
which all will return to their daily apprehension and insularity, bridged by
one further handful of sleepy mailing lists. Meetings such as this have
taken place repeatedly in the recent past, organised by various fragments of
a disoriented left that cannot imagine nor evolve, fixed as it is into
patters of thought and processes that have been emptied of all power to make
a (real) difference.

Perplexed (yet hopeful) greetings,

Giovanna and Mariangela
