"Raquel Varela paid a visit to Budapest and delivered a lecture in Kossuth
Klub for the Friends of ESZMELET (Consciousness) on 3rd October 2011.

Raquel Varela (1978) studied Law in Coimbra Faculty of Law (1997-2000),
Modern and Contemporaneous History in ISCTE-IUL Lisbon (2000-2005). She did
a post graduation in Contemporary History at the Universidade Nova de
Lisboa (2005). She has a PhD in Political and Institutional History (honor
and distinction) in ISCTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, with a
thesis on the history of the Portuguese Communist Party during the
carnation revolution.

She is honorary fellow of the International Institute of Social History and
researcher at the Instituto de História Contemporânea/Universidade Nova de
Lisboa, where she coordinates the Study Group on Labour and Social
Conflicts. She is a member of the preparatory committee of the
ITH-International Conference of Labour and Social History, Vienna, Austria.
She is a member of the Mediterranean Studies Association (2006), of the
Study Group on the Russian Revolution (2007), and of the Asociacíon
Historiadores del Presente (2008). She is corresponding editor of Outubro
journal, and member of the editorial board of Revista do Mestrado em
História da Universidade Severino Sombra."
