The same trade union (Solidarnosc) supported neoliberal shock therapies of early 1990s designed by IMF and the World Bank. Consistently, in late 1990s they supported neoliberal conservative government (with prime minister Buzek, who is the head of of EU Parliament now) that introduced neoliberal social sector reforms (again with the help of the World Bank) that started with marketization and lead to privatization of social sectors (health, care, social protection, pensions, education). Recently, the chair of this trade union gave an interview in which he supported the Civic Allance (neoliberal party in government). The same guy is now leading protests int he streets.
This is an element of the spectacle of democracy when workers are mobilized to protest against austerity measures while their trade union and votes are supporting neoliberal goverrnment that introduce the same policies. In Poland, the only choice in parliamentary politics is between neoliberal left and conservative-neoliberals
Or, as Walter Benjamin once mentioned:
" Fascism attempts to organize the newly created proletarian masses without
affecting the property structure which the masses strive to eliminate. Fascism
sees its salvation in giving these masses not their right, but instead a chance
to express themselves. The masses have a right to change property relations;
Fascism seeks to give them an expression while preserving property. The logical
result of Fascism is the introduction of aesthetics into political life." (from an essay n art int he age of mechanical reproduction.
This is not a problem in Poland, only. There are massive social protests, and then neoliberal parties are voted in government.
