Dear all,

transport unions announced a "not a single wheel rolls on rails" strike
in Czechia (railways stopping completely, urban transport in Prague and
several big cities) for Monday, 13 June, with the aim to force the
government to withdraw its austerity "reforms" (tax, pension, health and
social care, education) from the parliament and start a general
discussion on them to achieve a broader consensus, or to step down.
The government stroke back with inviting the union leaders to its
extraordinary Saturday meeting for "negotiations" where they were handed
the judicial ban of that strike (for not having announced it 3 days in
advance).
Even more trade unions then announced even a longer and broader strike
to be held tomorrow, on Thursday, 16 June, with marches and blockades al
buildings.
President Václav Klaus has already cancelled the celebration of his 70th
birthday, planned for this Thursday.
Civic initiatives working together on the platforms of the Czech Social
Forum and Alliance of Labour and Solidarity support this strike and
calls for new elections while the government declares it "will never
give up the reforms".

Watch the news from Prague tomorrow. In solidarity,

Mirek Prokes,
Czech Social Forum
