[fse-esf] ESF accommodation - requests/questions

Dear Maral,

i think you missed the point. I know very well the extreme difficulties of the organization. I also know that Eyup and Alp are the heroes of the Forum. My anger is not about the location of the solidarity accomodation, but about the time of the announcement.

Anyway, we are bringing our tents with us and we will participate in the camp of Macka Parque.

I hope all the best for the organization

In solidarity

Dear friends,
That's not the best way to start the istanbul 2010 social forum. Every country has its own problems, handicaps and also the beauties. Istanbul is a very big city, where millions of people change 'continents' to go to work or school every day and night. If it was possible to arrange a sports hall near the venues of the social forum there is no question that it would be done by the comrades. The TOC office, particularly Eyup and Alp, are working hard to solve the problems. Given the lack of money and the number of people working in the office -nearly 24 hours- I think we are not in a bad situation.

While we wanted to make it in Istanbul I am sure we were aware of all kinds of problems that we could have faced, most of which have been solved by this very small group working in Istanbul. I had the chance to participate to the social forums in London and Athens. It's not a good idea to compare and contrast these processes. For sake of productivity and solidarity I humbly ask you to be more patient and not panic.

Due to personal problems I am not actively working in TOC. However, I am sure that it is a good idea to keep in touch and go to the venues of the meetings for registration and further questions. We all have the phone number(with the extension), the office address and the addresses of the venues.

best,Maral jefroudi - ODP

Dear Alp,

the real problem is that you insist to not understand what is going on.

So on Thursday what are we going to say to our bus driver? To go to the park or the sports hall?

P.S. By the way, in Athens there have not been such problems. Solidarity acomodation was 5 minutes walk from the venue, all the information was accessible on time, and the solidarity fund was bigger than ever.

Dear Yannis,
We cannot understand why you are so 'furious' with us.
We are solving the problems one by one with great effort. There are many problems, just like we had in Athens. We hope you understand us.

The tents area is just near the Macka venue.
Our priority is to solve the accomodation in a position nearby the venue. The Park is being designed as the social center of the Forum, with the stage, the stands and the tents.

But we keep the sports saloon (Kadikoy-Caferaga sports hall) as an alternative.
Eyup is preparing a google map for the group.
We did not say that the participants 'should' bring tents, please read our mail once more. We said: "Everyone is kindly requested to bring sleeping bags and tents to the area, to facilitate the accomodation. However, please don't worry, those who don't have tents or sleeping bags will be provided with these means."

It is not an obligation, just a request, to help the organization. We are preparing enough tents for accomodation.
Registry will be in the gates of each three Faculties (Economics, Foregin Languages and Gumussuyu)

The march will be on the 3rd of July, 18.00 Osmanbey-Taksim.
Waiting for a comradely embrace,
Alp Altinors.

Dear Alp,

i hope you realize that the TOC behavior is irresponsible. You have assured us that solidarity accomodation will be held in a sports hall near the ESF venue. Today (June 28) you have just informed us that the participants should bring tents. (Now some people in Athens should make tenths of phone calls to spead the news). Then, you have informed us that the famous sports hall (that we will probably need because it seems that on Thursday it will be rainning) is on the... Asian side of Istanbul and that collective transport will (when?) be arranged.

Still we dont't have a map of the park or of the sports hall (despite of our continuous demands by e mails or phone calls).
Still we don't know where to register.
Still the time and the place of the demo are not confirmed.

Still there is no information on the englsih website.

Please our dear comrades, if you intend to organize a Malmoe No2, just tell us. We still have the time to cancel our participation.

In solidarity

Dear all,
Special cases like Igor mentioned (elder people, etc.) will be handled in a special way. There are people who want to open their houses for solidarity accomodation.
Yes, Caferaga Sports Hall is a place in the Asian side of Istanbul, in Kadikoy province, it is not close to the venue. It is an option to be held for 'misfortune' (rain, etc.) as I mentioned before. Anyhow, if the accomodation shall be in Kadikoy, we will arrange collective transport from Kadikoy to the Forum Venue in the morning and night. (This is arranged with the municipality of Kadikoy).

With solidarity,
Alp
