Change the lives of women to change the world. Change the world to change the lives of women.
We, the World March of Women, fight together against the causes of poverty and gender-based violence. Ten years after the creation of the World March of Women as an international feminist network, we will be in Istanbul, Turkey, June 30, 2010, a day before the European Social Forum.

Women from different countries in the European region will meet in Turkey to support the struggle of women in this country and in neighbouring countries in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. We also want to make visible how the various crises – food, energy, environmental and ethical – affect women; and how the so-called financial crisis, which is solid evidence of speculation, looting and neo-colonization, is in fact being used by the large multinationals to subordinate public interests to those of the enterprises.

We do not accept that dominant economic thinking uses women as an excuse to impose its solutions to the crises. We are women who have organized together to seek new ways of understanding and fighting against those who caused the crisis, all the while enriching themselves.

We oppose the vision of Europe as a fortress, defined by the borders of the European Union and based on increasing repression and militarisation, which instead of ending male violence against women aggravates it.

We are meeting in Istanbul to formulate and voice our common response to the current situation.
