SOME INFO

 

I'm sending you some info about the World Social Forum process.

Some of you take part in the IC, others receive info from their networks.

But perhaps there are many of us, in the list of the ESF, who can find
useful this note.

I would like to remember that the next International Council of WSF will
meet at the beginning of May in Mexico.

The Commission of the IC are open to every organization willing to work in
them.

And Regional and Continental Social Forum can send a delegation as observer
in the IC.

WORLD SOCIAL FORUM 2011

The next global event will take place in Dakar, Senegal, on 2011. An
international seminar will be held on November in Dakar, to plan the
strategy to build up the Forum. 

 

WORLD SOCIAL FORUM 2010

In 2010, WSF process will connect a long list of Social Forum events which
will take place all over the world. All the regional or thematical Social
Forum will discuss on the alternatives to the global crises, and occasions
for interchange and dialogue between the different social actors in the
different regions will be organized during the events.

 

Below you can find some quick info about only some of the 2010 events. The
complete list will be circulated soon. Here you can find first the events
planned in the South Mediterranean region, also because they are very linked
with the ESF process in Istanbul. In this period, Arab World social
movements are entering the WSF process, and this is very important.

 

TOWARD THE IRAQ SOCIAL FORUM

The preparatory Committee includes more than 150 civil society organizations
and trade unions. The process is horizontal, from below, self-organized,
represents all the confessions and regions of Iraq, and is aimed to build a
framework of unity to face the risks of civil war, and to help the struggle
for democracy in the country. The international network Alternative and the
Italian NGO "Un ponte per" are supporting the process, and there is the need
to more international support from the interested social movements.

 

TOWARD THE MAGHREB-MASHREK SOCIAL FORUM

The horizontal souh-south connection of civil society organizations,
movements and social actors in the Maghreb-Mashrek area (North Africa and
Middle East) is going on with a lot of energy. Morocco Social Forum is
coordinating the process of expansion. During 2010, regional thematical
seminars will be organized, in order to involve new actors and regions. The
first seminar will be in Algeria on November with the trade unions. In
Palestine a promoting committee for a World Social Thematical Forum on
Education has been established, the Forum is planned for the next October.
International support to the process is welcome.

 

FORUM FOR PEOPLES COLLECTIVE RIGHTS

In Barcellona, at the end of April, a Thematical Forum on Peoples Collective
Rights will take place. It will be the occasion to establish formally the
Network of Peoples without State who already in the WSF in Belem has done a
great work to horizontally connect many peoples struggling for their rights,
and to help their common proposals and alternatives to have visibility and
international connection, overcoming the isolation.

 

FORUM ON ALTERNATIVE PARADYGMS TO CRISIS OF HEGEMONIC CIVILIZATION

In Bolivia, indigenous peoples and civil organizations from all over the
world will meet in October for and international seminar, which is a step
forward the Forum on Crisis of Civilization and Research of New Paradygms.
It is a cultural debate and an interchange of practices, to discuss in a
deep way on the crises and ways out.

 

PORTO ALEGRE AND BAHIA SAN SALVADOR: TEN YEARS OF WSF

The 2010 events will start on January 25th in Porto Alegre, in the
International Seminar "10 years of WSF". It will be a big international
debate on the result of these ten years and the perspectives, and a lot of
self organized activities will take place in the same days.

 

In the following days, from January 29th, in Bahia San Salvador a Thematical
Forum "From Bahia to Dakar: face the crisis with integration and
sovereignty" will start. Again, international debates will be organized
beside a lot of self-organized activities.

 

USA SOCIAL FORUM
