Dear turkish organising committee, dear all,
There is an urgent need to clarify and confirm our common principles, in theory and in practice. All of us, including the turkish organising committee, as actors of the Esf and Wsf process, accept the Charter of principles of Porto Alegre ( http://www.forumsocialmundial.org.br/main.php?id_menu=4&cd_language=2) . In its 9th paragraph it says:
"9. The World Social Forum will always be a forum open to pluralism and to the diversity of activities and ways of engaging of the organizations and movements that decide to participate in it, as well as the diversity of genders, ethnicities, cultures, generations and physical capacities, providing they abide by this Charter of Principles. Neither party representations nor military organizations shall participate in the Forum. Government leaders and members of legislatures who accept the commitments of this Charter may be invited to participate in a personal capacity."
The NO to the parties is absolutely clear.
The document sent on the list is signed by one italian and one tukish political party and, moreover, calls for participation of political parties in the Esf process and in the ESF itself. There is a big contradiction with our principles and rules.
Therefore, I want to inform you that, in case there will not be a clear political statement and consequent behaviour by the Turkish organising committee about this issue in order to avoid this kind of "inconvenients", our organisation will be obliged to withdraw from the ESF process (program group, preparatory assemblies,....) and of course will not participate in the ESF 2010 itself. Sorry, but I think that we have to be very frank and transparent, for the success of our work and of the ESF
All the best
Alessandra Mecozzi
