    > Call for signatures and for large distribution
    >
    > Dear Colleagues and friends,
    > Anti war and peace organisations across Europe and beyond are calling for
mass protests at the 60th Conference of NATO in Strasbourg – Baden-Baden/
    Kehl from 3 - 5 April 2009.
    >
    > This is the first time the anti war movements have called a joint
demonstration in Europe and we believe that it will be one of the most
important peace mobilisations for many years.
    >
    > The fact that NATO is at the forefront of the disastrous occupation of
Afghanistan shows how it has become a vehicle for the pursuit of the US -
led War on Terror. The recent fighting in Georgia showed all too clearly how
NATO expansionism risks creating new wars, potentially between major powers.
    >
    > Attached is the call for the protests, which will include civil
disobedience, a peace camp, a counter conference and a mass demonstration.
The call was issued from a meeting of over 100 delegates and activists from
16 different countries which met in Stuttgart at the beginning of October.
    >
    > The call has already been backed by a wide range of progressive
organisations including many of the leading European and international peace
and anti war networks. All the signatories are committed to widening support
for the protests. We are asking you to add the support of your organisation
to the call to ensure the mobilisation for the protests is as effective as
    possible.
