In Hungary an extraordinary social success is profiling. The Hungarian National Broadcasting has announced this efternoon (17 March 2008), that the government is considering the withdrawal of the law opening the way to the privatisation of the national health insurance system. If the news would be confirmed, it could mean that the government had been forced to bow in front of the overall social resistance against the liberalisation of the public health system, at the same time the hungarian social development would offer a leading case at all european level too. As I have informed you, on 9th March Hungary has voted by YES to the abrogation of the new fees on healthcare and tuition. The result of the vote seems to be decisive in the withdrawal intention of the ruling coalition of socialists and free democrats. An other referendum initiative for the abrogation of the privatisation law of the health insurance system has obtained the approval of more than half a million of people signing the referendum plan up to now. In case of government would really withdraw the law approved on 11 Ferbuary, the civic referendum initiative would be also withdrawn, marking an extraordinary success of our Society against the neoliberal policy making.+++ Endre Simó 17 March 2008
