Dear all,
thanks for the message with the appeal.
About our proposals just one small change: the testimonies we talked about
are not "refugees" (this is the seminar) but from palestinian and israeli
civil and popular resistence (like Bil'in against the wall, the refusniks,
etc.)

Today in Milano, tomorrow in Rome there wil be candles marches against Gaza
siege and for a just peace, called by palestinian community, whrw already
different associations gave their support.

As Action for peace-Italy-network (that includes different associations and
trade unions), we sent an open letter to political candidates in the next
elections (that I have to translate and I will send on the list, in few
days). There will be mid of march in Rome a public meeting with them, about
the point "End Gaza siege!", asking to respond to our questions.

Ciao

Alessandra Mecozzi

Dear all,

In this email you will find the appeal for Gaza which circulated during
the EPA, and the decisions and propositions of the Palestine Network.

Since we wrote this text, things have become more than worse
only since yesterday more than 70 Gazans were killed.
We need to think about what we could do as it is evident that the appeal
is far from being sufficient.

A. The appeal

Stop now the Siege on Gaza

The continuous siege of the Gaza Strip by the Israeli occupation forces
constitutes a war crime. Before the eyes of the international community,
an entire people is being led to extermination. The siege is not a trivial
political measure. It prevents one and a half million of Palestinians from
having adequate alimentation and basic commodities, exercising any
economical activity, having access to fundamental health care, studying ,
and even from visiting relatives. The siege deprives the Palestinians from
the ability to survive in Gaza. It is indicative that since the Annapolis
meeting, more than 140 Gazans were killed.

The organizations signing this call find unacceptable this collective
punishment that is provoking a social and humanitarian disaster and
constitutes a grave violation to international law. We join our voices to
the Israeli human rights organizations that demand the end of the siege
and we stand beside the Palestinian resistance movement.

Stop the Siege on Gaza now,

Freedom to Palestine!

Palestine Network at the Berlin EPA, 22-23-24 February, 2008

B. Decisions and propositions of the Palestine Network

At the Palestine Network meeting were decided:

A thematic space focusing on the Nakba and testimonies of refugees
with the use of video, photo exibitions... This would be a place of
discussion and encounters.

Seminars and assembly (this is not yet defined):

1. Refugees, old and new (the situation of the refugees, the new waves
wether in the arab countries or in the western ones)

2. European policy towards Palestine and its responsibilities

3. 60 years after 1948, what future for Palestine?

Palestinien)
