Here is the present state of the mobilisation for ESF-5 in Malmö 17-21.9
2008 that have come to our knowledge. This mapping have been deiced to make
by EPA. We call upon everyone to send us information to make this mapping
more correct. Only this way is it possible for the next EPA in Berlin to get
the knowledge needed for continuing our efforts to bring in new countries
and groups into the ESF-process. The next meeting in the NOC European
contact group will take place 10.2. Please send information before this
date.

MAPPING TRANSNATIONAL ESF MOBILISATION JAN 2008

The mobilisation for European Social Forum in Malmö 17-21.9 is primarily
organised in two ways. One is geographical which is carried out by national
or local mobilising committee which may consist of a new coalition of groups
or existing social forum organisations. The other is mobilising of movements
which is done in different ways. The Nordic coordinatiing Committee have set
up a Contact Group for Europe and the World to promote the mobilisation and
the European preparatory Assemnbly have set up a European Mobilising Group
working together with the contact group. The priorities are specially to
mobilise Central and Eastern Europe and new groups into the ESF process.

Below you find a mapping of the mobilisation so far that have come to our
knowledge. We call upon all that are doing activities to mobilise to inform
the Contact group and European mobilising group. In the list below also
activities undertaken during international action days called upon by
assemblies at social forums or World Social Forum have been listed, even if
the call may also have been made by other organisations. Regarding the
Global Action Day information still is very uncertain in/at some cases. The
website http://www.wsf2008.net is great but it is very hard to know what
actions actually took place and how many. Please inform us if you know what
happened in your country.

Popular education

Mobilising plan or action: Well established organisatiuons on the European
level and in NOC. Workers educational association, ABF, in Sweden includes
all trade union and all left strands, social demoxcratic, left party,
communists and anarchosyndicalists, in the other Nordic countries social
democratic and leftwing edicational organisations are separate. Trade union,
Left party educational organisations and think tanks are strongly involved.
Green think tanks have not been active yet. Active are also grassroot
oriented peoples high schools like Kvarnby run by left-wing, Glocal with
good connections to Attac and Färnebo owned by the alternative movement -
environment, peace, solidarity and animal rights organisations and the Paulo
Freire association. New to ESF is also the nordic Association for knowledge
on activism and popular movements and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, both having a
broad popular movement base including non-socialists. The Network Institute
on Global Democracy initiated by Finnish acedemcians and activists but with
a borad global membership and the only Nordic organisation partcipating in
the WSF International Council from the beginning also have some interest.
