Please find below the solidarity message for the support of the National Agriculture Strike in Peru in English and in Spanish with the signatories.
Since in May the EU Latin America and Caribbean Heads of States meeting will take place in Lima for which mobilizations are planned and of which our Peruvian comrades have already told us that Alan Garcia will try to increase the repression, it is important that pressure is put on the EU governments and the EU.
It would be also important that more social movements in Europe join the Call for the mobilization to Lima.

SUPPORT OF THE NATIONAL AGRICULTURE STRIKE IN PERU AND
OF THE REJECTION OF THE REPRESSION PERUVIAN GOVERNMENT
We, the participants to the European Preparatory Assembly for the next European Social Forum, support the denounciation of the repression and criminalization of Peruvian peasents and agricultural producers organisations by the Government of Alan Garcia issued by the Enlazando Alternativas Network*. The social movements have started a National Agriculture Strike on the 18th of February 2008 against the US-Peru Free Trade Agreement and against the future Free Trade Agreements which the Government of Alan Garcia intends to negotiate, among others with the European Union. The mobilization of Peruvian peasants and agricultural producers is part of the mobilization towards the EU Latin America and Carribean Heads of States meeting in Lima, May 2008 at which the EU aims at expanding the domination of its transnational corporations in the region. The Enlazando Alternativas Network is mobilizing for an alternative Summit during this event to develop new convergences of solidarity among the movements of Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe.
To date four persons have been already killed, dozens of persons have been injured and in eight provinces, the Peruvian Government declared the Emergency state. We denounce the repression of the Peruvian government against those who excert their democratic rights of civil protest by participating in the National Agricultural Strike.
We demand from the EU, the European Governments and to the International Community a clear condemnation of the violation of human rights in Peru and to put pressure on the Peruvian Government to guarantee democratic rights in the country.
* Enlazando Alternativas is a network of movements, non governmental organisations and diverse social and political actors in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean which among others work together to strengthen the resistence against neoliberal policies and free trade which governments of both regions are trying to impose on our countries.

RESPALDAMOS EL PARO NACIONAL AGROPECUARIO DE PERÚ Y
RECHAZAMOS LA REPRESIÓN DEL GOBIERNO PERUANO
Nosotros, los participantes de la Asamblea Preparatoria Europea para el próximo Foro Social Europeo apoyamos el denuncio de la represión y la criminalización de los campesinos y productores agrarios del Perú por parte del Gobierno Peruano de Alan García, hecho por la Red Birregional Enlazando Alternativas Network*. Los movimientos sociales han empezado un Paro Nacional Agropecuario el 18 de Febrero 2008 en contra del Tratado del Libre Comercio Perú - Estados Unidos. La movilización de los campesinos y productores agrarios es parte de la movilización hacia la Cumbre de Jefes de Estado de la Unión Europea, América Latina y el Caribe en Lima, Mayo 2008 donde la Unión Europea intenta la expansión del dominio de sus transnacionales en la región. La Red Enlazando Alternativas prepara una cumbre alternativa para construir nuevas convergencias de solidaridad entre los movimientos de América Latina, el Caribe y Europa.
Hasta ese momento ya cuatro personas fueron matados, decenas de personas eran heridas y en ocho provincias el Gobierno Peruano ha declarado el estado de Emergencia. Denunciamos la represión por parte del Gobierno Peruano hacia las personas que ejercen sus derechos democráticos participando en el Paro Nacional Agropecuario.
Exigimos de la Unión Europea, los gobiernos en Europa y la Comunidad Internacional una condena clara de las violaciones de los derechos humanos en Perú y de hacer presión hacia el Gobierno del Perú de garantizar los derechos democráticos en el país.
* Enlazando Alternativas es una red de movimientos, organizaciones no gubernamentales y diversos actores sociales y políticos de Europa, América Latina y el Caribe que, entre otras cosas, se articulan para contribuir al fortalecimiento de la resistencia a las políticas neoliberales de libre comercio, que gobiernos de ambas regiones intentan aplicar en nuestros países.
