COMMUNIQUE
The National Commission
of the Free Trade Union "August 80" expresses its
satisfaction with the signing of the agreement which ends the 46-day
strike in the Budryk Coal Mine in Ornontowice.
We believe the signed agreement is favourable for the workforce and
in accordance with our expectations. It realises the wage rises which
will enable individual professions to achieve the level of wages in
other mines of Jastrzebska Coal Mining Company (JSW S.A.) this year.
These wage rises will be realised through an increase in the rates of
individual categories, which will guarantee an increase in wages of
workers employed underground as well as surface workers. The first
payment will be made immediately, the second in six months. This way
of implementing the increase in wages is in accordance with the
expectations of the industrial workers at the mine.
The long strike of miners, determined to fight for their rights, the
support of their families and the words of support coming from around
the world were all responsible for the employer yielding to the
majority of the strikers’ demands. The effect of this will be a
real increase in wages already in this year, as well as a one-off
payment to compensate for the fact that wages were not raised in
2007. Workers who up to now have been employed on temporary contracts
will have permanent employment contracts.
A
special commission has also been set up, which has as its task the
standardisation of wages in all the mines belonging to Jastrzebska
Coal Mining Company, which will mean financial gains for all the
employees of JSW S.A. as well as the workforce of Budryk mine. The
first effects of the work of this commission will be felt in the
second half of this year when the next stage of the equalisation of
wages will take place between the individual mines of JSW S.A.
In
its own name and in the name of the Factory Commission of "August
80" in the Coal Mine "Budryk", the National Commission
of the Free Trade Union "August 80" wishes to express its
recognition and gratitude to all those who supported the strikers. We
thank you for the words of support for the struggle which we
conducted as well as the financial support for the families of the
striking miners. This support proved to be invaluable in the
conditions of the smear campaign which was organised against the
strikers and strike leaders by the government, the company’s
management, the liberal media and some of the corrupt trade unions,
which betrayed the interests of working people by organising
strikebreaking activity and participating in the anti-worker smear
campaign against the strikers.

Chairman
