Kaukasus- Krieg und European Peace Action beim ESF

Der Georgische Angriff auf die Suedossetische Hauptstadt Zchinwali, die
starke Reaktion Russlands durch den Einmarsch in Suedossetien und dessen
Bombardierung, sowie die Entsendung Russischer Truppen nach Georgien hat zu
schwerem menschlichen Leid und politischen Reaktionen gefuehrt. [...] Das
ESF ist der Platz fuer Diskussionen und Aktionen dazu. Niemand kann im Namen
des ESF sprechen, aber die gebotenen Möglichkeiten können von Allen genutzt
werden selbst in Aktion zu treten.

Anhand des Kaukasus- Konflikts kann man sehen, dass das ESF mindestens drei
Möglichkeiten schafft sich zu engagieren und zu organisieren: Während der
ESF- Vorbereitung können persönliche Kontakte geknuepft werden und
Kommunikationswege geschaffen werden. Die Seminare und Versammlungen werden
dann den Konflikt explizit auf die Agenda des ESF bringen. Zudem ist das ESF
generell eine Europäische Bemuehung Frieden zu sichern in dem es sowohl
Stellung gegen Militarismus als auch die Gruende fuer Kriege bezieht.

Bedeutsam fuer die Wichtigkeit des Kaukasus- Konflikts während des ESF sind
vor allem Organisationen aus dem Nördlichen Kaukasus, Armeinien,
Aserbaidschan, und Georgien. Vor dem Krieg im Kaukasus haben bereits das
Peace Committee, Helsinki City Assembly, sowie internationale Solidaritäts-
und Umweltschutzgruppen die Initiative ergriffen Sprecher aus der Region
einzuladen. Es ist jedoch zu frueh Aussagen darueber zu treffen, ob der
Krieg ihnen die Möglichkeit nimmt zu kommen, aber das Interesse besteht. Die
Kaukasus Region war ausserdem bereits auf der European Preparatory Assembly
repräsentiert.

Während der EPA- Treffen können Menschen aus verschiedenen Ländern und
Organisationen Vertrauen zueinander gewinnen und Initiative ergreifen, wenn
es erforderlich ist mit Hilfe der European mailing list fse-esf.org und der
Activist News Agency unter openesf.net. Die fse-esf Beiträge während des

Ueber den Mail-Verteiler sowie dem Blog haben Menschen aus EWG- und
westlichen Ländern ihrer Meinung zum Kaukasus- Konflikt Ausdruck verliehen.

Es wird eine Anzahl der ESF- Seminare dem Kaukasus- Konflikt explizit
gewidmet werden, bestätigten die Organisatoren in den letzten Tagen.

Darunter befinden sich:

Undefined situation in Northern Caucasus and solidarity against
proliferation of the conflict.


No to NATO, no to US bases and nuclear weapons in Europe. Europe for peace
and solidarity.


Right to self determination: A new Europe based in peoples rights.


East-West alliances and relationships.

Alle diese Seminare und andere, die den Kaukasus- Konflikt aufgreifen,
können die Aktivitäten während des ESF nutzen um ihr Anliegen
weiterzubringen, egal ob während Friedens- Themen oder den general issues.
All e Vorschläge fuer Aktionen können zur finalen Social Movement Assembly
eingebracht werden, wo sie u.a. neben einer Kampagne zur Nato und ihrem 60.
Geburtstag im nächsten Jahr diskutiert werden.

Es kann auch diskutiert werden, ob das gesammte ESF eine Antwort auf den
Kaukasus- Konflikt sein soll.

European Peace Action

Die Antikriegs- und Friedensbewegung ist gut koordiniert vor, während und
hoffentlich nach dem ESF. Anti-Imperialisten und Pazifisten haben viel
Veranstaltung gemeinsam organisiert. Eine Schluesselrolle in der Kooperation
verschiedener Organisationen nimmt dabei "The Next European Peace Action
Forum" ein. Dies ist einer der vielen Workshops, Seminare und
Veranstaltungen und Aktionen ausserhalb des ESF. Mehr Informationen unter:

Mikael BÖÖK, Aktivist im ESF und WSF, hat ebenfalls ueber die neue "European
Peace Action" geschrieben und wie das ESF zur Wiederbelebung der starken
Friedens- und Nuklearen-Abruestungsbewegung der 1980er Jahre fuehren kann.

Die Initiative zur aktuellen European Peace Action, die eine wachsende
Koalition von Organisationen und Netzwerken ist, wurde vom Schwedischen
Netzwerk Ofog ergriffen. Auf der Website wird der Name wie folgt erklärt:

"Ofog translates into "mischief". But ofog is also a play with words.
"Foga" is a Swedish verb meaning to conform, to obey. But in Swedish, if you
put an O before a word, you turn it into its opposite.
"Foga" also means, roughly, fixating things together in a decided and
unchangeable form, so in this meaning of the word, when we put the O before,
this is an allusion to our function as a flexible, dynamic network.

Das Oberthema des European Peace Forum in Malmö wird die Stärkung des
Widerstands gegen Militarisierung sein. Das Forum legt den Fokus auf Direkte
Aktion.

Dies sind die Möglichkeiten, die ESF zu einem Treffen machen, das den
Kaukasus-Konflikt, die Ost-West- Beziehungen sowie Europäischer Frieden
diskutiert und Aktionen entstehen lässt.

Als ESF Activist News gefragt wurde, ob es eine Reaktion auf das Abkommen
ueber den US- Amerikanischen Raketenschild in Polen gab, der von Russland
als Bedrohung betrachtet wird, kam prompt die Antwort ueber den
fse-esf.orgVerteiler:

"Ja, wir hatten heute zwei Demonstrationen in Warschau und auch Proteste in
anderen Städten. Organisator: Stop the War Initiative

Eine Mahnwache vor dem Buero des Premier- Ministers wurde organisiert am Tag
der Unterzeichnung, und später eine Zweite vor der US- Botschaft, sodass
mehr Leute nach Feierabend teilnehmen konnten. Es waren Antikriegs-
Aktivisten, Linke, Gruene und nicht-organisierte.

Unsere Slogans: No to US bases, No to the missile shield, We've had Moscow -
we
don't want Washington.

EWG Mobilisierungs Neuigkeiten:

Alle EWG- Länder sind auf dem ESF vertreten

Die NOC European Contact group hat bereits die Information, das alle EWG-
Länder beim European Social Forum in Malmö vertreten sein werden. Die
grössten Delegationen werden aus der Tuerkei, Ungarn und Russland kommen;
alle mit 120-150 Teilnehmern soweit wir wissen.

Voraussichtlich werden Teilnehmer aus folgenden Ländern vertreten sein

Visa-Ländern des ehemaligen Jugoslawiens starten. Wir hoffen, dass die
zusätzlichen Sitze von Teilnehmern aus Slovenien und Kroatien genutzt werden

Zweite Vergaberunde des Solidarity Fund

Eine Entscheidung des Schwedischen Konsulats in Istanbul hat geklärt, das
Tuerkische Delegiert des ESF von den Visa- Kosten befreit werden. Die
Botschaften in Russland und der Ukraine sind dem Beispiel gefolgt. Jede
Botschaft trifft eigene Entscheidungen, weshalb wir Resourcen in Reserve
behalten muessen, aber das kann ausserhalb des Solidarity Funds budget
passieren. Dies erlaubt eine zweite Vergaberunde fuer Geld aus dem
Solidarity Fund, der auf dem EWG ESF- Verteiler vorgestellt wurde und sich
nun nach Absprache mit unseren EWG Kooperationspartnern auf eine Summe von
mehr als 11 000 Euro beläuft. Das Geld wird wie folgt verteilt (Abweichungen
können den Wuenschen unserer Kooperationspartner entsprechend auftreten):

Anreisen, die das 100 Euro Limit der ersten Vergabe um ein vielfaches
uebersteigen. Die erste Vergabe wurde ueber den fse-esf.org – Verteiler
bekannt gegeben:

Turkey
Russia East of Moscow, Nothern Caucasus, Siberia.

Proposal Turkey 2 500 euro
Russia 2 500 euro

Sum for far away travels 5 000 euro

Travel by collective transport or other means:

Visa countries
Ukraine 6 more places, 100 euro each for travel, accomodation and food payed
in Malmö, 55 euro) in total 155 euro each x 6 = 930 euro
Former Yugoslavia 10 more places, in total 1 550 euro

Hungary/Romania/Bulgaria

Hungary 15 more places, 100 euro each for travel, 20 for accomodation, in
total 120 each x 20 = 1 800 euro (can be used for more persons paying parts
of the costs themeselves):
Romania 2 more places 100 euro each for travel, 20 for accomodation, in
total 120 each x 2 = 240 euro

Poland

7 more places, ca 40 euro for travel, 10 for accomodation (50%), in total
350 euro.

Sum: for extra places within earlier per person calculation for visa
countries, low and middle income groups: 4 250 euro

In total for far away and additional places according to earlier
estimations: 10 000 euro

Reserve for speial needs 1 500 euro (especially keeping Caucasus in mind).

Allgemeines:

Grösstes ESF Kultur- Programm aller Zeiten: 400 Veranstaltungen

Das kulturelle Programm in Malmö wird das bisher grösste des ESF – hunderte
von Konzerten, Ausstellungen, Modeschauen etc.

Es wurde organisiert von 10 Arbeitsgruppen zu Musik, Theater, Tanz,
Literatur/ Poesie, Kunst, Fotografie, Kinder- Kultur, Jugendkultur und
Chören. Fast alles ist kostenlos mit einem ESF- Pass, nur wenige
Veranstaltungen kosten Eintritt. Das kulturelle Programm dreht sich um
politische, soziale und ökologische Themen, um Widerstand und der Suche nach
Alternativen in Europa und der ganzen Welt.

Die Idee ist die verschieden ESF- Themen zu reflektieren und Mittel- und
Osteuropa zu fokussieren. Mehr oder weniger alle teilnehmenden Artisten und
Kuenstler des Kulturprogramms treten ohne Gage auf, was nur möglich wurde
durch die massive Mobilisierung kultureller Aktivisten in Malmö in
Kooperation mit mehr als 300 Organisation weltweit. Das ESF- Kulturprogramm
umfasst mehr als 130 Musiker und Bands, das bisher grösste Filmfestival in
Malmö (mit 62 Filmen) und ein weite Bannbreite anderen organisierter und
spontaner Performances.

Wir benötigen Informationen (auf englisch) wie die Vorbereitung in
Westeuropa laufen un einander zu inspirieren und damit wir besser abschätzen
können wieviele Teilnehmer kommen.

Es werden viele politische Initiativen während des ESF gegruendet oder
vorgestellt zu den Themen Wasser, Klima, Antiziganismus, Bildung, Anti-
Nato, etc. Bitte informiert uns, sofern Ihr Informationen zu solchen
Initiativen habt mit Links zu Aufrufen oder anderen Informationen, sodass
wir darueber berichten können.

Friends of the Earth "vergruenert" ESF

Malmö, Sweden 17.-21. 09. 2008

With at least 24 activities FOE groups goes to action at the European
Social Forum taking place in Malmö 17-21st of September. ESF is a
gathering of multiple spaces in the same place for popular movements
from all of Europe for discussion and action that has taken place
since 2002 in Florence.

Friends of the Earth will take part on all levels mobilising all from
local FoE groups initiating seminars on stopping motorways and
defending public urban spaces to Friends of the Earth International
campaigners. FoE groups have been active at ESF before with many
seminars (see: http://www.foeeurope.org/trade/events/ESF/Index.htm),
but this time the scope is wider. There are the many climate
seminars, how to address the crisis of exploding food prices,
agrofuels, and challenging corporate power. But this time FoE also
takes the lead in seminars on how popular movements can cooperate to
be of importance to peoples daily life and the future of the global
justice movement and how to act against repression of social movements.

And there will also be a lot of action. Via Campesina and Friends of
the Earth Youth organises a joint Youth camp- http://
www.foeeurope.org/youngfoee/Youth%20camp%20ESF.html. Activists in
Malmö occupied the street and delivered ginger cakes to passers by on
the international Climate Day 8th of december last year on what in
Sweden is called Klimatkrock, a tradition to block car traffic for a
while and create culture instead - http://green-blog.org/2007/12/10/
climate-walks. During ESF there will be a new Klimatkrock on Friday
19.9. Next day there is the big ESF demo in need of all FoE
creativity to spread our message for environmental justice, a
demonstration that will end with a big party with Kajsa Lindqvist as
speaker, chair of Friends of the Earth Sweden recently arrested for
attempting to sabotage air traffic at the Malmö air port in a protest
against climate change.

The wide range of actions has been possible due to a broad scope of
cooperation partners with Via Campesina as the most crucial one.
Friends of the Earth and Via Campesina Sweden formed an alliance and
started together with Latin American solidarity groups, FIAN and
Finnish cooperation partners on 17th of April a campaign in support
of the landless movement in Southern Brazil struggling against the
Swedish-Finnish forestry corporation Stora Enso using land for
monoculture plantations. This paved the way for alliances organising
common activities during ESF and will hopefully also help in bring
envrionmental and rural issues into the core of next years campaiging
that will be discussed at the Social Movement Assembly at ESF. In
2009 World Social Forum will take place in Belem in Amazonia with
environment as one of its key issues and the action year will end
with the Climate Summit in Copenhagen.

There will also be 300 cultural activities and 250 seminars and
workshops at ESF - http://www.esf2008.org. Friends of the Earth have
been working on all levels, from being active with the cultural
program to supporting a strong Central and Eastern European
participation. A special newspaper will also be distributed to the
participants to promote our vision made by FoE Sweden and Finland.
What has been especially positive is that indigenous people will be
central, by facilitating the inauguration, as speakers in the broad
seminars intitied by FoE of interest for all popular movements and in
a special seminar on Indigenous Peoples and Planetarian Environmental
Justice.

So come to ESF in Malmö. We hope it will promote the greening of ESF
and strengthen our cooperation with peasants, indigenous people and
all other popular movements.
