Thank you Wayne, hoping other Attacees who were not present in Saarbrücken
ESU 2008 also support us. I agree with you that anti-fascism is not the only
relevant issue in dealing with relations between ethnic groups. Our
struggle must be linked with other issues, too.

Best friendly,

Matyas Benyik

Unless anyone else from ATTAC-Hellas says something to the contrary, which I
doubt will happen, I think it is possible to say that this statement has the
support of ATTAC-Hellas.

But it is a statement that needs supplementation, because anti-fascism is
not the only relevant issue in dealing with relations between ethnic groups.

This is something that needs to be emphasised in relation to the Karadjic
trial. Undertakings by politicians to grant "immunity from prosecution" in
return for agreements to retire from political life represent flagrant
breaches of the principle of an independent judiciary as well as intolerable
interference in citizens' right to engage in politics.

To that extent it is Warren Christopher that should be on trial for us, not
Karadjic, and other nationalist politicians, who for us should be dealt with
through political means, not through complicity in practices that destroy
the institutional integrity and political independence of the Europe that we
are trying to construct.

This is a personal statement, but it would be good if it could become the
basis for collective statements also.

It is not only neo-liberal economic policies but also OUR failure to give
sufficient emphasis to this aspect of the problem that has led to the
situation in Hungary that is being condemned by our Hungarian comrades.

Any comments?

Wayne Hall
