Dialogue between left and christians in Hungary



On initiative of the Hungarian Social Forum Social Roundtable a dialogue has taken place between left and christians in Budapest on 11th September. The main goal of the conference by the title â01EFor a more equal and fraternal Societyâ01D was to seek for a common way out from the ethical, political and social crisis caracterising Hungary. The very interesting common minding had as main actors Mr. Prof. János Goják, General Secretary of the Hungarian Catholic Church Iustitia and Pax Commission and Mr. Prof. Ferenc Gazsó (leftwing sociologist). The conclusions of the conference have been resumed by Endre Simó (HSF SR). The conference dialogue has shown that there are some fundamental common social values between marxist left and christians. One of the most important beeing the necessity of more freedom in order to better assure the human emancipation and social progress. Common was the intention to overcome the ruling neoliberal way by modificating the distribution system with a new Social Policy, in order to transfer more resources from the capital to the Workers and people in need. A â01ESystem correctingâ01D policy concerning the relationships of distribution was sollicitated from both sides as first step to stop the deterioration of the social situation. Problem of ownership was also discussed and common was the intention to extend later the system correcting strategy to the property relationships too in order to strenghten the â01Esocialâ01D in front of the â01Eneoliberalâ01D. The dialogue has taken place when a new wave of social protest is developing against the ultraliberal policy of cuts of the ruling coalition of socialists and free democrats.
