Dear Friends,

the radical commitment of Endre Simó to the right is obvious. Here, in Hungary we are well aware of this. This is the reason for the organizations participating in the Hungarian Social Forum having been separated from him and his activity. As to the Hungarian Catholic Church it is good to know that it directly promotes the extreme right political forces. The apparent willingness of Endre Simó to cooperate with the left political forces is a ridiculous trick. Nobody takes it seriously here. The statement of Endre Simó, that the FIDESZ-MPP is not a fascist, but a democratic right-wing party, is not true. Unfortunately it is not. Neither is it true, that the extreme right-wing is not represented in the National Assembly. Directly, it is not, but indirectly it is. Maria Wittner, the parliamentary deputy of FIDESZ-MPP takes part publicly in the work of fascistoid groups, makes speeches at their events, and other FIDESZ-MPP parliamentary deputies put on publicly "nyilas" (in 1944 it was the same in Hungary as in the SS Germany) uniform. At the local elections of 2006 FIDESZ-MPP and the fascistoid extreme right party (Jobbik) created a publicly assumed coalition.

We can perfectly agree with the previous letter of Matyas Benyik, in which he discloses the opinion of the Scientific Council of ATTAK about the Hungarian general situation. In my opinion the current situation is even worse than how it was described by the Scientific Council of ATTAK.

Yours sincerely: Ilona Jozsa - Civil International

Simo Endre says that they will continue with the "open orientation of social alliances for achieving concrete social goals with other forces not of left". This is why they organize a conference with the Hungarian Catholic Church Iustitia et Pax Committee.

I can't judge the positions of the Hungarian Church. But speaker at this conference is (between others) also the director of the foreign office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (-Foundation) in Hungary. And I can judge this Foundation.

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung is the party's foundation of the German Christian Democratic Union, the party of Helmut Kohl and Angela Merkel. Its aim - as well as the aim of the other foundations of the German political parties - is to develop the political opinions and propaganda of the party (think tank) and to propagandize these opinions in Germany and the world. You can read about the foundation at their website (in English) http://www.kas.de/wf/en/.

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung is (with the Hans-Seidel-Foundation of the CSU) the most right-wing foundation of the German parties. This think tank tries to combine the policies of the neoliberal globalization with the most reactionary ideas of family, Christianity and patriotism. It might not be the fountain of German "neocons", but generally most of the ideas and principles discussed in these circles are very close to the ones of Bush and his friends.

Personally I think that it is not a very good idea to cooperate with such men. They try to exploit the dissatisfaction and the anger of the people suffering from the neoliberal globalization and to attract them to policies, which in the best case are dead-end-streets. They often criticize neo-liberalism from a far right point of view. This is what the fascists in Germany did before 1933. (And we remember that the German neo-fascists of the NPD demonstrated against the G8 and the neoliberal globalization on June 2nd i.e. the same day we demonstrated at Rostock.)

We as ESF should criticize the globalization from progressive and not from right and reactionary positions. I don't say that we should not cooperate with other forces than left ones. But not every alliance is allowed to oppose the opponent. Such alliances do not "help to find the way out from the crisis" as Simo says. Quite on the contrary. This is why I believe that at least alliances with such reactionary forces should not have any acceptance within the European Social Forum or any national Social Forum.

We continue with our open orientation of social alliances for achieving concrete social goals with other forces not of left. As part, on 11 September we will organize a conference with the Hungarian Catholic Church Iustitia et Pax Committee by the title â01EFor a more just and fraternal Societyâ01D, making a common effort to show an other social-ethical order in front of the existing neoliberal one, and help to find the way out from the crisis.
