Danish prime minister just now announced that there will be general election
for the danish parliament on Tuesday 13th november.
This short notice is probably an attempt to avoid too much discussion of the
consequences of the governments welfare reforms and plans for further
reforms.
it off course means that the danes with an interest in working with the ESF
in Malmö will be rather busy the next few weeks.
the odds of the left is not very good, unfortunately. one possibility though
is that the xenophobic Dansk Folkeparti will loose its influence on the
government. this will happened if the small centre-right parties gain
sufficiently strength to replace it as the governments parliamentary
support. That will not necessarily be an improvement for the poor or the
welfare state, since these parties although more humane on issues like
surveillance of citizens and immigration are less supportive of the Nordic
welfare state.
