Official announcement given by the Network for Political and Social Rights,
on an "traffic" incident against a member of theirs

DENOUNCEMENT

On Thursday 17 May, at 4.45am, on the corner of the streets Filis and
Pipinou, a car hit a motorbike ridden by Costas Moutzourakis, member of the
Network for the Political and Social Rights. It was not an accident, since
the car was following C.M for a lot of time and, at the point they crashed,
it speeded up, hit the back of the motorbike and drugged it for at least 10
meters, drove over it and smashed (whilst luckily the motorcyclist, after
whipping back to the asphalt, stayed at distance, threatened by the car
passengers). Three of the four car passengers, husky men in jockey caps, got
out of the car and started kicking the motorbike, until they got back to the
car and left. Neighbors wrote down the number of the car (YEN 7167, Opel
Astra, dark grey) and they called the police.

This was when the plot of insensibility and police terrorism started, which
is the reason for this denouncement: Both the patrols of the Police Direct
Action and the Traffic Police investigation cars, which arrived in a while,
when they were given the number and the description of the car and the
passengers, they immediately concluded that there is no such number, they
falsified the residents about the description of the car and the
aggressiveness of its passengers, even threatening them so that they stop
getting involved in the incident. After asking C.M if he is an anarchist,
they told him that they cannot do anything and told him to talk with the
insurance service. It was indicative, that while C.M. and the residents
where protesting for not calling the headquarters so as to identify the car,
one cop said to the others “They are our guys”, “Leave it”.

There is no doubt that the incident is a murderous attempt aiming to
terrorize, performed by men of the Greek Police. There is also no doubt that
the incident itself is directly related with the increase of the state
repression in Exarchia and the effort to terrorize all those who react
against such a cleansing. Though, we demand from the Ministry of Civil Order
to refer to the incident, to provide details for the passengers of the car
with the civil number YEN 7167 and start the procedure for letting them out
of the Greek Police. As for us, as Network for the Social and Political
Rights, we will enable every legal and political procedure for stopping the
police brutality.
