[fse-esf] FUTURE ESF:'IN STRUGGLE WITH' NOT 'IN PARALLEL TO' THE EU and Eastern European States

                Companieros, Friends,  Some thoughts from some of us in Cymru/Wales Social Forum for Lisbon on developing the ESF in a more Dynamic 'In Struggle', 'Civil Society Alternative' to the EU Council of Ministers, Russian Federation, other non EU Eastern European States way.

  To us the 'Counter Summits' (EU) were the for-runners of the ESF and they were presenting themselves as the 'People's Alternative' to the Neo-Liberal 'Imperialist EU Council of Ministers'.
   
  In our Experience:
  1998 June :EU  COUNTER SUMMIT CARDIFF - relatively good mobilisation.
   
  1999 June :EU Counter Summit Koln/Cologne - very dynamic big mobilisation.
   
  2000 December : EU Counter Summit NICE - at least 1 million people turned up and thousands were stopped at the Italian Border.
   
  2000 June: Counter Summit Goteburg Sweden - Local Social Forum Goteburg came out of it no? - big mobilisation.
   
  2001 December: EU Counter Summit Brussels - Dynamic, big mobilisation.
   
  EUROPEAN SOCIAL FORUM 
   (in PARALLEL not in OPPOSITION/ STRUGGLE to the 'EU Government' -including of course our non-EU Member State,Central, Eastern European,Russian,Turkish Companieros/Friends )
   
  2002 November ESF-Firenze (EU Summit in Denmark)................??
   
  2003 November ESF-Paris (EU Summit in Italia)...................??
   
  2004 October ESF-London (EU Summit in Netherlands)..............Dynamism dropping (mainly because of English Chauvinistic Anti-Continental European bullshit perhaps) but No Clear STRUGGLE against the 'EU Government'.
   
  2006 May ESF-Athina (EU Summit in Austria)..............Dynamism recuperating after London 'Verticals' debacle - no doubt due, in large degree, to the Passion ,Carisma & Dynamism of our Greek Companieros - but again NOT IN DIRECT STRUGGLE WITH THE 'EU Government.
   
  What do you think in terms of taking the ESF - FORWARD & TO A HIGHER DIMENSION - Towards Another Possible Europe ?
   
  Should we have:
  1. The ESFs AT THE SAME TIME AND AT THE SAME PLACE AS THE EU-SUMMITS.?
   
  2. Have the EPAs also at the same time and place as the EU Summits - perhaps with some variation e.g. to satisfy the POLITICAL NEEDS of our Eastern Companieros/Friends.
