Dear Gosha,

Thank you very much for your e-mail. Regretfully, the history is repeating
itself and our rightwingers do not learn lessons.
We can only hope that the majority of people will be wise and does not want
another big tragedy. The danger of fascization is
quite obvious from the Baltic Sea via Poland to Hungary.
All antifascist forces of the region should unite to stop the extremist,
fascistoid tendencies.

Best regards,

Matyas

My dears, I feel so sorry for you, if this really happens to you you will
not know whether to laugh or to cry, perhaps you will have more luck and
your right wingers will be less obsessed and stupid, otherwise:

You will have your parliament officially praying for rain and trying to get
in a law that would make Jesus Christ King of Poland (in your case Hungary)
You will have your education minister, who does not believe in the evolution
theory, say in public that of course men and dinosaurs existed side by side,
did you not hear about the legend of the dragon that lived next to the city
of Krakow in the middle ages? Now this same Education Minister + his
fascist loving party is busy trying to have all abortion banned (even if it
means death to the woman) and a law put in that will illegalize all
pornography and wants to jail homosexual teachers and others who "promote"
homosexuality (this, in theory, is great news for the anti clericals, as 2/3
of the homosexuals in schools are clergymen teaching religion).
Employees may insist that you document your "innocence" during the socialist
years, if, for example, during the socialist years you happened to have a
neighbour who worked for the party and he spoke to your more than once, you
may find yourself documented as an "immoral" person and be out of a job.
They even plan to take Granddad's military bonus away because fate would
have it he came with the Soviets from the East (presumably it would have
been better if he joined the German army). And you may find that most of
your country's remaining resources like buildings, forests and farm lands
are not grabbed and spoiled by the bad and ugly Western capitalists but by
the clergymen who receive these from the government almost free and who are
now the biggest landowners in Poland and eagerly collect the EU funds....

Anyway, the list goes on and on, each morning I wait for what new news the
radio will bring... all buildings build during the dark socialist years to
be torn down, books to be burnt, people belonging to the old system to be
thrashed and deported to Byelorussia and Russia....

DECLARATION OF ATTAC HUNGARY
ON THE RIOTS IN HUNGARY ON 15TH MARCH 2007.

On 15th March, on the occasion of the anniversary of the 1848 Hungarian
bourgeois-democratic revolution a massive demonstration was held by the
right wing parliamentary opposition (i.e. Alliance of Young
Democrats -FIDESZ) in Budapest. This right wing party is open to the extreme

right, even entered into electoral alliances with the extremist right wing
forces and did not condemn the street riots of the extreme right in automn
2006.

Using demagogy, Fidesz avails itself of the neoliberal anti-social policy of

the ruling social-liberal coalition curtailing public services. As
everywhere, neoliberalism is feeding the extreme right tendencies also in
Hungary. Consequently the situation is similar to the one of Weimar in
today's
Hungary. Or, to put it otherwise, Hungary is heading towards
"Polandization".
This is why the Hungarian social movement is in a very difficult situation.
On the one hand it has to reject the neoliberal policy of the government and

in the same time it has to fight against the right wing demagogy, the
rightist extremism and the reviving fascist manifestations on the other.

Subject: [fse-esf] Tensions and riots in Hungary

A renewed wave of protest against the "lying Prime Minister" Ferenc
Gyurcsany and his ruling coalition of socialists and free democrats, with
riots in the streets of Budapest have marked the National Day of 15th
March in Hungary. Speaking in Budapest to 250 thousand people
celebrating the anniversary of the Revolution of 1848 for the
independence of the country from the domination of Austria, Viktor
Orban, chief of the opposition (FIDESZ) has told, that the referendum to
be held in Hungary in the next months was "the last constitutional tool"
to say goodbye to the government. If Gyurcsany would not resign,
people would be in right to expell him and his government. Orban has
told, that the stake was freedom and democracy or oppression. He has
invited the crowd to win the fight with democratic dignity without any
concession to hate. In Hungary never before a National Day of 15th
March has been celebrated with such a large mass participation,
reflecting the increasing discontent of the people with the economical
cuts and the privatisation of the public services, mainly the Healthcare
and Social Insurance system, wanted by the Gyurcsany government
and supported by EU authorities. A clear sign of the isolation of the PM
and his ultra liberal policy was the official celebration of the National
Day in the hermetically closed Kossuth square with the only presence of
PM and officialism. An "iron curtain" of metal barriers impeding the
participation of the public at the ceremony symbolized the deepening
conflict between Hungarian Society and the Government. During the
night clashes of extremist groups with the police have occured in
Budapest.+++

15th March 2007 Endre
