*On the 48th day of the hunger strike for the right of assembly and for *
*Trade Unions rights one of our hunger strikers was beaten by the police. *
* The police held Piero Bernocchi and other members of the Cobas national *
*executive comitee.*
Today at 5 p.m. , Nicola Giua and Nanni Alliata, accompanied by about 50
representatives of COBAS confederation chained themselves to the window
grates
of the Government Building ( Palazzo Chigi) to peacefully and harmlessly
protest
against the complete silence about the reasons for their 48
days hunger strike for trade union rights.
The police intervened immediately with a manifestly excessive strength
against the protesters, holding six of them and bringing the speaker of
Cobas,
Piero Bernocchi to the Police Station.
Amongst the people who were held by the Police there were some
representatives of
the National Executive committee of Confederazione Cobas.
Nicola Giua, already weakened after 32 days of fasting and after an
illness that required an immediate hospitalization just three days ago,
bound his neck with a chain to a grate; he was injured by the police
and is now in precarious health conditions with respiratory problems.
He is assisted by Doctor Roberto Maurizi.
The main requests of this campaign are the right of assembly during
working time for every Trade Union and for every group of workers as
well as
the right to enroll in any Trade Union. Rights that today are
not granted for the workers of the private sector nor for the
pensioner workers.
