Dear all,

As it was decided at the end of the Meeting in Rome (Medlink - Meeting of
mediterranean civil societies, 23-25 november 2006), the italian organising
committee registered and will organise a seminar at the World Social Forum
in Nairobi, in order to continue and enlarge the debate, that was rather
insufficient in Rome (as many participants observed). The global framework
of the WSF offers the chance for a real enlargement and deepening of the
discussion that will help the follow up of Medlink.
The seminar should take place on the 23 of january (but the timetable of the
Social Forum is not yet confirmed) and will be on one of the most discussed
and provocative issue "Politics, religion, culture in the crisis of
civilizations". All of you are invited. You find below the complete
description of the title: the debate will be open by a short presentation
and the format will be  a seminar with many short speeches, not a panel with
long introductions.

Chers tous et toutes,
comme on l'avait decide a la fin de la rencontre a Rome (Medlink - Rencontre
des societes civiles de la Mediterranee, 23-25 novembre 2006), le Comite
d'organisation italien a enregistre et organisera au Forum social mondial de
Nairobi un Seminaire pour continuer et enlargir la discussion que a ete a
Rome assez insuffisante, comme beaucoup des participants on remarque. Le
cadre global du Forum mondial nous donne la possibilite d'enlargir et
enrichir la discussion et aider ainsi le processus de Medlink.
Le seminaire est prevu pour le 23 janvier (mais le calendrier du programme
definitif n'a pas encore ete publie) et sera sur un de themes plus a
discuter et provocatif. "Religions, culture et politique dans la crise des
civilisations".
Vous etes invites a participer. Vous trouvez dessous la desciption du theme:
le format sera un seminaire, avec une presentation tres courte et
interventions courtes aussi. Il ne s'agit pas d'un Panel avec longues
introductions.
On espere vous voir a Nairobi pour continuer la discussion. Toutes nos
amities du Comite italien d'organisation

Care tutte e tutti, come deciso alla fine dell'incontro a Roma abbiamo
registrato e promuoviamo al Forum sociale mondiale di Nairobi un seminario
in cui sia possibile allargare e approfondire la discussione che a Roma,
come molti partecipanti hanno rilevato, e stata insufficiente. Il quadro
globale del FSM ci offre l'occasione per un ampliamento e arricchimento
della discussione e quindi aiuta il processo di Medlink. Il seminario
dovrebbe svolgersi il giorno 23 (ma il calendario definitivo non e ancora
uscito) e sara concentrato su uno dei temi di maggior interesse e
provocatorio "REligioni, cultura, politica nella crisi di civilta".
Siete invitati/e a partecipare. Il seminario sara aperto da una breve
introduzione e seguiranno interventi brevi dei/delle partecipanti. Non ci
saranno lunghe introduzioni, tipo panel.

Religions, culture and politics in the crisis of civilisations
In the last few years we have seen the raise of intolerance and a tendency
to be close into communities. Racist, nationalist and fundamentalist
feelings are growing. Globalisation has a tendency to homologate cultural
diversities. Religions are more and more invading public spaces in contrast
to the laicity. Can religions be an instrument for freedom and coexistence?
How can culture and a new politic help in escaping the crisis of our
society?

Ces dernieres annees nous avons assiste au developpement de l'intolerance et
des tendances  a se renfermer dans le communitarisme. Racismes,
nationalismes et fondamentalismes augmentent. La globalisation tend a
homogeneiser  et aplanir les differences culturelles. Les religions
envahissent toujours plus l'espace publique aux depens de la laicite. Les
religions peuvent-elles devenir des instruments di liberation et de
cohexistence ? Comment la culture et une nouvelle politique peuvent-elles
aider a sortir de la crise de civilisation ?

Abbiamo assistito negli anni recenti allo sviluppo dell'intolleranza e delle
tendenze a chiudersi nel "comunitarismo". Razzismi, nazionalismi e
fondamentalismi aumentano. La globalizzazione tende ad omogeneizzare e
appiattire le differenze culturali. Le religioni invadono sempre piu lo
spazio pubblico a spese della laicita. Le religioni possono diventare
strumenti di liberazione e di coesistenza? Come la cultura e nuove politiche
possono aiutare ad uscire dalla crisi di civilta?
