On the New Year's Eve, December 30, 2007 the trade-union "Zakhyst Pratsi" ("Defense of Labor") and around 60 leftist and antifascist activists staged a token picket of "Metro Cash and Carry Ukraine" corporation in Kiev. Participants of the picket demanded reinstation in his job of Volodymyr Demyan, illegally dismissed leader of the trade-union "Zakhyst Pratsi" in "Metro Group" corporation. Activists distributed 300 leaflets to the customers of the supermarket with the call to boycott "Metro Group" corporation until it continues to repress trade-unions. Participants of the picket demanded immediate termination of employment contracts with Axel Hluchy, Mykhaylo Zavylov, and Peter Trojan, the managers guilty in illegal dismissal of the trade-union leader. Activists declared that that token picket had been only a start of a campaign of mass actions against "Metro Group" in Ukraine and in those countries where this anti-trade-union network has affiliated supermarkets.
