Dear friends,
After these attacks, the Turkish police yesterday raided over 20 democratic
institutions, in 7 cities, including our newspaper ATILIM, Socialist
Platform of the Oppressed (ESP)(4 branches), Textile Workers Union (3
branches), Radio Free, Dockyards Workers Union, Labourer Women's Union,
Socialist Youth Association, BEKSAV cultural center. Over 20 people are
arrested. The arrested include ESP Representative Figen Yuksekdag, Radio
Free News Editor Halil Dinc, Atilim journalists Onder Oner, Ozge Kelekci,
Songul Akbay, Yilmaz Koruk, Ilden Dirini, Kadir Aktas; Textile Workers Union
President Ayse Yeter, Dockyard's Workers Union President Cem Dinc-General
Secretary Zafer Tektas. The police is trying to put all these people into
prison, and protests all around the world can help these people be released.
The police had taken all the computers in the offices raided.

The police claims that these raids are 'struggle against terror' but it is
obvious that this is State Terror. The Government who passed the decree for
sending troops to Lebanon is now applying terror over the institutions
opposing the collaboration with the US imperialism. The government, who
tries to smash the Kurdish national democratic movement is now applying
terror against the friends of the Kurdish people.

As an editor of the ATILIM newspaper, I call all the democratic forces
around Europe, all the participants or the ESF, to give a loud voice against
this state terror. While talking about 'democratisation' the Turkish state
is becoming more fascistic. Let us make actions in front of the Turkish
embassies. Let us declare protest letters to the press in our country. Let
us carry this repression to the European Parliament. Let us mobilize union
confederations against the repression over unionists. Let us mobilize
journalists' organizations against the repression over ATILIM newspaper.
(Our Chief Editor and Vice Chief Editor imprisoned, our newspaper banned for
15 days, our 5 offices raided, our 6 employees under custody.)

>The League for the Fifth International has received the following press
>release and appeal from the MLKP, a prominent participant in the
>anti-imperialist space at the Athens European Social Forum. The MLKP have
>been extremely active in opposing Turkey's support for the US-Israeli
>atrocities in Lebanon and Palestine. These courageous actions have brought

>The record of tortures and murders by the Turkish state, including ah gaint
