Dear Comrades and Friends,

Since the other Networks put their reports in the ESF mailing list I hereunder do the same for our Repression Network.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Minutes of the Repression Network meeting in Frankfurt, 03.11.06

We had participants from Turkey, Greece, Italy, Portugal, the Basque Country and Germany. (The majority were Turks from Turkey or Germany.)

First we had a discussion about using the mailing list of our Network, criticizing other Network members and dealing with political differences between us. A solution could not be found during the meeting but only the day after.

Then we discussed about the ideas / proposals that were published before in the repression mailing list. We agreed that the main issues for the Repression Network to deal with during the coming period would be

- the G8 meeting next June in Heiligendamm/Rostock, Germany

- the (anti-)terror laws in Europe

- the practical consequences of the "War on Terror"

The G8 meeting and the parallel mobilization concern the whole anti-globalization and antikapitalist/-antiimperialist movement and especially those who are involved in the antirepression work. It was common opinion that it was very important for us to take part at the preparations and at the demonstrations against the summit.

We should be occupied with the (anti-)terrorist laws in Europe. We should compare the different laws in European countries. We need a specified synopsis, which compares these laws article for article.

Related to the practical consequences of the "War on Terror" we should put in the centre of our political activities during the coming period the efforts of the Turkish state to apply its terrorist laws and methods inside and outside of Turkey. The new law was applied in the persecution of Turkish trade-unionists and anti-imperialist organizations and at least the relating methods also against the struggle of the Kurdish people for self-determination. In parallel efforts the EU and some European countries helped Turkey by banning these organizations and putting them on the EU Black Lists.

We necessarily need to think about broadening our Network. We must win more people and from more and various structures for the support of our work. We must achieve a more productive and effective work. The issues of repression should not get lost inside the ESF process.
