[fse-esf] Draft Resolution for the EPA in Frankfurt: Armament

Frankfurt EPA. It will also be distributed separately to the 
representatives of organisations and individuals to sign on behalf of 
their organisations. So please read it through and, if you accept it, 
sign it during the Frankfurt EPA.

DRAFT RESOLUTION


  *Starting a new round of global armament?*


Recently, media have disclosed that already in 2002, governments of some 
Central European countries from the former Soviet block were 
unofficially asked to permit building a new rocket base against 
ballistic missiles in one of those countries. The selection process and 
negotiations are still under way.

According to the recent news, the selection has been shortlisted to 
Poland and Czechia. The researches on public opinion show that in both 
countries only a minority of the population supports this solution. In 
Czechia even up to 83 % are against the building of the base in their 
country. However, their governments say it be just an experts´ solution, 
not good for a referendum. One of the reasons for this is that people 
feel the official reasoning (threats from Northern Korea and Iran) as 
excuses for more covert reasons (as might be a possible future fight for 
energy resources with possible future superpowers).

We believe that Europe should defend itself jointly against any future 
threat, not preferring any country´s national interests for others´ 
ones. We do not need any new round of armament – be it nuclear or 
anti-nuclear missiles or military bases. Instead, we all need 
pan-European and global
