RESOLUTION
End the State Terror in Turkey, Abolish the TMY
State terror is being escalated with the use of the Anti-terror Law (TMY) in
Turkey against democratic rights and institutions.
On 12th September, 20 socialists were arrested. Among them Ibrahim Cicek,
the Chief Editor of Atilim newspaper, former Chief Editor Ziya Ulusoy,
Coordiator Sedat Senoglu, journalist Bayram Namaz and Ozgur Radio
Coordinator Fusun Erdogan. On 14th September, Atilim newspaper was banned
because of carrying into its pages the news about the state terror.
However, the Turkish State has broadened arrest operations against
socialists, leftists, democrats and progressives. On the 21st of September,
over 20 democratic and socialist institutions in 21 cities were raided by
the Turkish police accompanied by Special Forces. These included the
Istanbul Central Office, provisional offices and the editorial office of
Atilim Newspaper, Kadikoy office of Ozgur Radio, BEKSAV cultural centre,
Taksim bureaus and provisional bureaus of the Socialist Platform of the
Oppressed (ESP), Mustafa Kemal Neighbourhood Association, many branches of
Labourer Womens Association (EKD), the Textile Workers Union, Limter-Is
Union, the offices of the Socialist Youth Association (SGD) and the houses
of the people who are working for these institutions.
As result of the recent offensive, another 40 were sent to prison including
Atilim journalists, ESP representative Figen Yuksekdag, Ozgur Radios News
Editor Halil Dinc; the President of Textile Workers Union Ayse Yumli Yeter,
the President of Limter-Is Union Cem Dinc and General Secretary Zafer
Tektas; the Chairwoman of Labourer Womens Association Cicek Otlu.
We as the organisations and individuals, who came together on 3-5 November
2006 in Frankfurt-Germany during the 1st European Preparatory Assembly for
the 5th European Social Forum, strongly condemn the Turkish States recent
attacks on the democratic and socialist institutions, and demand immediate
release of all the people those who have been imprisoned.
