[fse-esf] Violence in the ESF

Dear All,

A participant of our delegates from Turkey (Global Peace and Justice Coalition), who is a doctor, was taking pictures during the conflict. He has then seen Petros laying on the ground and in an unconscious state. He treated him immediately. He was recovered afterwards, but it seems now that he was not completely.

I am very sad to read some comments in this mail-list which might be understood as that the SEK and/or IST people have tactics which in the end make them deserve violence. I see it as a double moral. Violence should be condemned without any doubts. It seems to me that some friends in the ESF tend to tolerate violence if it is directed to those who they do not like! Sad.

The team of "safeguard" has blocked the SEK contingent long after it was necessary in any case (then the SEK contingent was behind of tens of Greek organisations). The blockage has not been given up for hours. This alone is an eveident that the real reason was not to apply the decisions taken by the
GSF, but to halt and provocate the SEK contingent. Some of the participants of the Turkish delegation (Global Peace and Justice Coalition) were marching together with the Greek Stop the War Coalition (SWC). The violent conflict has so escalated that the Greek comrades of the SWC have taken us away from this place. One professional photographer in the Turkish delegation has taken pictures during the attacks to the SEK contingent, which show clearly the violence of the team of "safeguard". We can make them available to the public if it is necessary.

However I personnaly believe that the team of safeguard is a minory within the GSF. I also believe that we should discuss the matter constructivelly, since we have had a very successful ESF and we should built on the success of it to strenghten the international unity.

I would like to thank to all Greek comrades, who contributed to the success of the ESF.

I wish to Petros a quick & full recovery.
