[fse-esf] environment seminars

Dear Piero,
Your Cobas seminar has not disappeared. It is in the list that Yannis sent
out, and I think it has been merged in the way you want, so I did not write
about changes to it. I wrote only about the changes that I knew people
wanted.
I am suggesting only three climate change seminars out of thirteen on the
environment. I think all topics in the environment are important, but this
is the most important problem we face. Also, there were many more semianrs
proposed on climate change than on anything other topic.
There are two reasons for having seminars on climate and war, and on
climate, corporations and social justice. One is that we have said many
times in the esf environment network that we do not want a ghetto for the
environment, but want to be transversal and reach out to other movements.
The other reason is that we will have climate demonstrations in many
countries on Nov 4, and we want to involve as many people as we can. For the
sort of really big movement we need to force governments to act, we will
need to move out far beyond just green groups. That is why our seminars are
trying to involve unions (like cobas), peace groups, development ngos, and
social movements. The environment is not only an issue for
environmentalists.
I hope this answers your question.
Jonathan
