Call for a Ceasefire in Israel & Lebanon! - traduction française

Objet: Appel pour un cessez-le-feu en Israël et au Liban !

Chère Edith,

La population au Moyen-Orient souffre une nouvelle fois parce que des militaristes de toutes les parties ont lancé un autre round de violence dévastatrice – cette fois entre Israël et le Liban. Chaque bombe lancée, chaque enfant tué représente notre échec à vivre ensemble comme une famille humaine, et l'ascendant d'un militarisme irrationnel sur des valeurs d'empathie et de compassion. 

Nous sommes épouvantées non seulement par la violence elle-même mais aussi par l'absence d'une direction internationale pour essayer de l'arrêter. C'est particulièrement vrai pour ceux d'entre nous qui vivent aux Etats-Unis : Alors que le monde hurle pour une intervention globale pour arrêter la folie, notre gouvernement empêche la communauté internationale d'appeler à un cessez-le-feu – confondant le droit d'Israël à se défendre avec le choix de tuer des civils innocents et faire sauter des ponts, des aéroports et des centrales électriques libanais. 

Malgré un taux de morts libanais excédant les 200 et le décompte israélien à 24, les efforts de pour retourner à la diplomatie ont été accueillis avec un scepticisme extrême. 
Jeudi dernier, en réponse au lancement par Israël d'une nouvelle attaque militaire massive sur Gaza à cause du kidnapping d'un soldat israélien, le Conseil de sécurité de l'ONU a introduit une résolution appelant TOUTES les parties à la modération. John Bolton, ambassadeur US à l'ONU y a opposé son veto. Le dimanche, une tentative ONU pour appeler à un cessez-le-feu entre Israël et le Hezbollah a de nouveau été bloquée par les US. 

Entre temps, les nouvelles sur l'Irak sont passées dans les dernières pages de nos quotidiens, malgré le fait que plus de 100 civils ont été tués ces derniers jours. Une fois de plus, nous découvrons un gouvernement US qui entrave les efforts du gouvernement irakien et des opposants armés pour se rencontrer pour un plan de réconciliation qui inclurait le retrait des troupes US.  

Quand notre gouvernement manque d'agir en faveur de ceux qui souffrent, nous comme citoyens responsables devons agir. Voici quelques suggestions :

1. Contactez l'ambassadeur John Bolton à la Mission US de l'ONU en appelant le (212) 415-4050 or emailez au usa at un.int et demandez lui d'appeler à un cessez-le-feu.

2. Contactez le Secrétaire général de l'ONU, Kofi Annan et implorez le que l'ONU doit montrer son leadership et exiger un cessez-le-feu.  Email: sg at un.org et/ou Fax: (212) 963-1921 .

3. Participez à des manifestations et des vigies locales. (…)

4. Rejoignez le jeûne. Nous entrons dans notre troisième semaine de jeûne, à laquelle ont déjà participé plus de 4000 personnes. 

Aujourd'hui, c'est notre 16e jour de jeûne à Washington et dans le monde. Tandis que nous continuons à nous concentrer sur l'objectif de ramener d' Irak, les troupes à la maison, nous insérons aussi dans notre travail pacifiste l'appel à mettre fin à la violence dans tout le Moyen-Orient et surtout dans les objectifs de « Rapidement les troupes à la maison ». Ce sont des moments comme ceux-ci que le jeûne peut approfondir notre engagement et mettre en valeur la vision du monde dans lequel nous voulons vivre.

Dear Edith, 
The people of the Middle East are suffering once again as militarists on all sides have launched yet another devastating round of violence -- this time between Israel and Lebanon. Each bomb dropped, each child killed, represents our collective failure to live together as a human family, and the ascendance of irrational militarism over the values of empathy and compassion.
We are appalled not only by the violence itself but the lack of international leadership to try to stop it. This is especially true for those of us who are living in the United States: While the world is crying out for global intervention to stop the madness, our government is blocking the international community from calling for a ceasefire -- confusing Israel's right to defend itself with the choice to kill innocent civilians and blow up Lebanon's bridges, airports and power stations.
Despite the Lebanese death toll exceeding 200 and the Israeli count at 24, efforts to turn to diplomacy have been met with extreme skepticism. Last Thursday, July 13th, in response to Israel launching a massive new military assault on Gaza because of the kidnapping of an Israeli soldier, the U.N. Security Council introduced a resolution calling for ALL sides to exercise restraint. This resolution was vetoed by John Bolton, U.S. Ambassador to the UN. On Sunday, a UN attempt to call for a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah was once again blocked by the U.S. 
Meanwhile, news about Iraq has fallen to the back pages of our newspapers, despite the fact that over 100 civilians have been killed in the past few days. Once again, we find the U.S. government impeding efforts by the Iraqi government and armed opponents to move toward a reconciliation plan that would include the withdrawal of U.S. troops.
When our government fails to act on behalf of those suffering, we-as responsible citizens-must act. Here are some suggestions:

1. Contact Ambassador John Bolton at the U.S. Mission to the UN by calling (212) 415-4050 or emailing usa at un.int and ask him to call for a ceasefire.

2. Contact UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and implore the UN must show leadership and demand a ceasefire. Email: sg at un.org and/or Fax: (212) 963-1921 .

Today is the 16th day of our fast in DC and around the world. While we continue to focus on bringing our troops home from Iraq, we're also incorporating the call to end the violence throughout the Middle East into our peace work and specifically into the goals of our Troops Home Fast. It's moments like this when fasting can deepen our commitment and enhance our vision of the world we want to live in.
