For the first time since the collapsing in 1990 of socialism in Hungary
a common demonstration of all national Trade Union Confederations
(MSZOSZ, ÉSZT, SZEF, LIGA, MOSZ, Autonóm SZSZ) and civic
organisations took place in Budapest on Saturday 8th July 2006
against the neoliberal policy and the restriction mesures of the ruling
coalition of socialists and free democrats. Answering by yes to the main
slogan First the People, after the profit about five thousand people
have joined the demonstration organised by the six national Trade
Union Confederations. By supporting the mobilisation and the aims of
Trade Unions thirty civic organisations and leftwing political parties
have launched a common appeal for the Social Rights, at the defense of
the Public Services and the Environment, calling the attention to the
dangers ultra liberal policy can generate in extreme right sense, like in
Poland and Slovakia has created. Among the signatories of the common
appeal Attac, Humanists, Green Youngs, Unemployed, Live Chain for
Hungary, Civic International, Workers Party 2006, Humanist Party and
the HSF cwg. The organisations co-operating in the frame of the
Hungarian Social Forum cwg have participated with a big flag of the HSF
in red and Jobs, Peace, Secure Existence! written in green. Speakers
of the six Trade Union Confederations have invited people to continue
resisting against the restrictive mesures of the government in case of
the approval by the National Assembly of the New Balance project on
Tuesday. This 500 pages program of so called reforms is oriented to
the re-establishing of the State Budget by the way of increasing taxes
on foods, on other goods of first necessity, as gaz, electricity, fuel, the
mass lockout, particularly in the public services, the privatisation of the
health care and the social insurance systems, actually based on
solidarity mecanisms. The New Balance program in Hungary is urged by
the European Central Bank and the EU Commission in view of the
introduction in Hungary of euro, linked with the respect of the
Maastricht parameters. We must show yellow card to the
government the President of LIGA Confederation was telling to the
demonstrators. This card could turn in red if political and economical
elited o not accept the priority of the social interests Vice President of
MSZOSZ has said. Other speakers have unmasked the treasonous
attitude of the government vis a vis of the agreements concluded and
broken with the Trade Unions. The Republic is not a share company,
Society cannot be transformed in a market unionists have launched
their appeals rejecting the responsibility for the social tensions to the
government, because not respecting his promises before the elections
in May. Demonstration caracterised by good atmosphere and
spontaneous participation of people. Very good press coverage.+++
