Dear Friends,
Last December 3 we had demonstrations about climate change in over
25 countries. There were 40,000 marchers in Montreal, 10,000 in
London, 4,000 in Turkey, and 6,000 in Australia. This year we will
be doing the same, in more countries, in much bigger numbers, in
November, at the time of the UN international talks on climate. The
probable date is 4 November, but this is not fixed yet.
We will be having a European planning meeting for this
demonstration, with people coming from many countries, on Saturday,
4 March, 14.00-18.00 in Frankfurt. This is NOT PART OF THE ESF. The
majority of the people attending will not be part of the ESF
process. But we are holding the meeting in Frankfurt at the same
time as the preparatory meeting of the ESF, because for several
campaigners it will save them considerable time and money to go to
both. We do want all countries possible at the meeting, but we do
not want to take too many people away from the esf meeting. But it
would be good to have one or two campaigners from each country at
the demonstration planning meeting.
The meeting will discuss the date of the demonstration, how to build
in each country, how we can help each other, the wording of the call
to action, previous experience, a possible international petition of
scientists, and much more.
The address of the meeting is Saalbau Nied,
Heinrich-Stahl Strasse 3 / Luthmerstrasse 40
65934 Frankfurt am Mein
(ten minutes travel on S1 or s2, nearest station Frankfurt Nied
Bahnhof)
This is not only a meeting for environmentalists. In the
demonstrations in 2005 in different countries we had strong
participation also from green parties, development ngos, left
parties, trade unions, faith groups, and other groups. It is not
only environmentalists who live in the climate. We want all sorts of
groups involved.
