Here is a detailed update on the plans in different countries for the global 
climate demonstrations on November 4 and November 11. Please distribute this 
list as widely as possible in your networks.

UPDATE ON GLOBAL CLIMATE DEMONSTRATIONS ON NOVEMBER 4 AND NOVEMBER 11.
Here is a list from the Campaign against Climate Change in Britain of what 
is happening so far in different countries, as of August 1, with the 
addresses of contact people in each country. We will be updating this list 
and sending out a new one every couple of weeks between now and November.

AUSTRALIA - On December 3rd 2005 3,000 marched in Sydney and there were 
Walks for the Climate in Canberra, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane, Alice 
Springs and Cairns. Preparations are underway for something even bigger this

BANGLADESH – Demonstration in Dacca, November 4. On December 3rd 2005 there 
was a human chain and street demonstration in Dacca organised by Bangladesh 
Poribesh Andolon (BAPA), with the participation of 30 other groups They are

BARBADOS – See St. Lucia

BELGIUM - A mainly visual action in Brussels on November 4. Not very large, 
but solid, and should attract media interest. Supported by Greenpeace, CAN,

BRITAIN – Demonstration, London, November 4, starting at US Embassy and 
marching to join Stop Climate Chaos rally in central London. On December 3rd 
2005 10,000 marched in London to the US embassy demanding the US ratify 
Kyoto. This year there is a big coalition of NGOs involved too, making it 
certain the 2006 demonstration will be much bigger still. Contact Phil

BULGARIA – Public information events and rally, Sofia, November 4. On 
December 3rd 2005 there was a march, conference and exhibition in Sofia, 
with many organisations involved. This year they plan to get support for a

CANADA – Demonstation in Toronto, November 4. At the Montreal Climate Talks 
on December 3rd 2005 tens of thousands demonstrated for real action on 
climate from the delegates. This year the demonstration will be in Toronto.

CROATIA – Demonstration, Zagreb, November 4. There was a small but colourful 
and media-effective demonstraion in Zagreb on December 3rd 2005. Contact

DENMARK – The Socialist People Party Youth are planning a climate campaign 
based around Al Gore’s film and the November demonstrations. Contact Jacob

CZECH REPUBLIC – Action in Prague, 4 November. The World Car Free Network, 
with the support of several other organizations, will be occupying a street

FINLAND – Demonstration in Helsinki, 4 November. 800 people demonstrated in 
Helskinki and two other towns in a raging snowstorm last December. The same 
coalition of green party, environmentalists and socialists is organizing

FRANCE - On December 3rd 2005 there were several bicycle-actions aound 
France staged by Velorution. This year Velorution, the Green Party and other 
organizations are discussing plans for a demonstration in Paris. Contact

GERMANY – Demonstration, Berlin, November 4, Brandenberg Gate, going down 
Under den Linden to Alexander Platz. Supported by Greenpeace, CAN Youth, FOE 
Youth, and probably Green Party and WASG. Next organizing meeting is in 
Berlin, Tuesday 22 August, 11.00. Contact Gabriela Goerne,

GREECE - At the European Social Forum in Athens plans were laid for a bigger

ICELAND – Plans discussed at environmental protest camp in July. For more

IRELAND – Demonstration in Dublin, 4 November. Plans are at a preliminary 
stage, with organizations contacting each other. There will be town meetings 
around the country in September and October. Contact Donal MacFhearraigh,

ITALY – Demonstration in Milano, 4 November. On December 3rd there was a 
small action in Milan organised by Ecoistituto Terremutanti and the Green 
Party (Federation of Milan and Greens/EFA at EU Parliament). There was a 
meeting to organise for a bigger event on November 4th in Italy, held in 
Milano last 17th June, hosted by Ecoistituto Terremutanti. A public workshop 
is scheduled in September to involve Legambiente, Italian Green Party, WWF 
Italia and Greenpeace Italia, to create a political platform and to promote 
a call to action for local administrators and a manifesto by scientific

KENYA – A wide variety of NGOs are involved in preparations for a 
demonstration on November 11th, the Saturday midway through the Climate 
Talks which will be taking place at the UNEP building just outside the city. 
The demonstration will be in the city. Contact

NETHERLANDS – There will be meetings and maybe a rally. Contact Jens

NEW ZEALAND - There was a Climate Fair in Wellington on December 3rd 2005. 
Plans are afoot for a bigger event in 2006. Contact Laura Beck,

NORTHERN IRELAND – Demonstration, Belfast, 4 November. Preliminary talks 
taking place between the same coalition as last year. Plans will be 
finalized at the Global Justice Conference in Belfast, 13-15 October.

NORWAY – Demonstration, Oslo, November 4. On December 3rd 2005 there was a 
"Weather Forecast" Protest in Oslo organised by Young Friends of the Earth. 
They are ready to go again for 2006. Contact marit at nu.no

POLAND – There was an action in Warsaw in December organized by the Geen 
Party (Zieoloni) and other organizations. Those involved are now talking to 
each other about plans for 4 November. Contact Magda Mosiewicz, Zieloni,

PORTUGAL – Actions in Lisboa, Porto, Setubal, Braga and or Beja on 4 
November. "Os Verdes", the Green Party, is bringing people together. They 
have been collecting signatures for a petitions to the prime minister and to 
George Bush. They have had successful actions in the last 6 months in the 
Island of Madeira, and the cities of Lisboa, Porto, Vila Real, Guimarães, 
Mafra, Évora, Viana do Castelo, Portalegre, Macedo de Cavaleiros, Bragança, 
Chaves e Castelo Branco, Guarda, Santa Maria da Feira, Famalicão, Leiria, 
Coimbra, Beja, Madeira, Vila do Conde e Loulé. On the 4th of November the 
idea is to have a big action day simultaneously on 5 Different big Cities 
(Lisbon, Setúbal, Porto, Braga or and Beja and maybe try to extend it to 
more cities), adding to the campaign a banner in every spot with the logo of 
the Global Climate Campaign. The goal is to get as many signatures as 
possible and give the ones concerning transport policy to the Prime Minister 
and hand in the ones on the Kyoto Protocol to the US Embassy. Contact Victor

ROMANIA – On December 3rd 2005 there was a Climate Conference and rally in 
Craiova. Plans are underway for November 4th 2006. Contact Teclu Codrisi,

RUSSIA – Demonstration, Moscow, November 4. Last year they had 120 
demonstrators in Yekaterinburg, this year they plan for more in Moscow.

SCOTLAND – In December 2004 the demonstration was in Edinburgh. This year 
Scottish campaigners have decided to come down to what promises to be a very 
large demo in London on November 4, and then probably demonstrate in 
Scotland again next year.

SLOVENIA – Discussions are taking place on exactly what action to take.

SOUTH AFRICA - Planning is just starting for actions on November 4, both in 
Cape Town and either Johannesburg or Pretoria, possibly also Durban.

SOUTH KOREA – Demonstration, Seoul, November 4. On December 3rd 2005 
hundreds demonstrated in Seoul. Preparations for this year are in early

SPAIN - Eccologistas en Accion (who have already organised a big climate 
demo in Madrid) and others are planning a demonstration for November 4 in

ST. LUCIA – Don Evelyn is talking to people about possible events in St. 
Lucia and in Barbados on November 4. Contact donevelyn at hotmail.com

TAIWAN – There are plans for a demonstration in November. The Green Party is

TURKEY – National demonstration, Ankara, November 4. On December 3rd 2005 
2,000 demonstrated in Istanbul and another 2,000 in Izmir, AnKara and other 
cities. This year there will be joint national demonstration against climate 
change and against nuclear power. They expect much bigger numbers. Contact

UNITED KINGDOM – see Britain, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

USA - On December 3rd 2005 there were actions and events all around the USA. 
The plan is to repeat for November 4th 2006, and make an enviromental 
statement for the Congressional elections just a few days later. There are 
regular national conference calls for November 4 – the next is August 10.
